Car Insurance Ford (Car Insurance). How to fix a car window? How to fix a car window? I've been struggling with this problem for about 2 years now, my 1999 Toyota Camry's driver side window will not close. Years ago someone tried to break in (failed) and it wouldn't close all the way. It was fixed and remained so for a while. Then about a year ago i left the windows open and got out of the car, I assume when i closed the door that it knocked something loose, it took me about a year to finally get it in the shop and have it fixed. It seemed to be fine until the window got nearly closed and then it would just go crooked and leave about an inch of open space. This happened again the other day, it's only been fixed for about 3 months and I would really like to avoid taking it back to the shop. Any suggestions? i had that problem about 6 months ago. the window regulator was my problem. i used a piece of clear tape to pull it into position but i was getting rid of the car any way. Ford . How to Change an Alternator BeltThe alternator receives its power from a belt that runs from the alternator to the engine's crankcase. As the motor turns, it rotates the belt on the pulley, which allows the alternator to generate electrical current. Due to use or weather conditions, the belt can become worn out or cracked, and keep the alternator from producing any power. When this happens, your vehicle will run out of power and stop. To prevent this from happening, you can change the alternator belt yourself in an hour or two, and save yourself the expense and time of having someone else do the work for you. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Socket wrench set Prybar Step by Step : 1 Locate the power steering pump on your vehicle and find the tensioner bolt on the pump that loosens the power steering pump belt. It should be located on the bottom of the pump. 2 Loosen the power steering pump belt by using a socket wrench to untighten the tensioner bolt on the pump until you can remove the power steering pump belt. 3 Set the power steering pump belt aside and locate the tensioner bolt on the A/C compressor. Use a socket wrench to loosen the A/C tensioner bolt and remove the A/C belt. 4 Locate the adjustment bolt on the alternator and use a socket wrench to loosen the bolt. When the alternator is loose, use a prybar to move it until you can take the belt off of the pulleys. 5 Position the new alternator belt around the pulleys and use the prybar to move the alternator back into position. Tighten the alternator adjustment bolt with a socket wrench until the belt has the proper tension. 6 Place the A/C belt around the pulleys and tighten the tensioner bolt with the socket wrench until the belt is adjusted properly. 7 Put the power steering pump belt around the proper pulleys and then tighten by using a socket wrench on the tensioner bolt until the belt is tight. Tips & Warnings Note how each belt is positioned around the pulleys before removing them in order to replace them easily. Never attempt to change out the alternator belt when the engine is still hot. Allow it to cool down to prevent any burn injuries.
Ford . How to Change the Alternator on a CivicThe alternator in your Honda Civic helps extend the life of your battery by recharging the battery during use. If you alternator is faulty, your battery will not be able to hold a charge and your Civic will require constant jump-starts. Replacing the alternator in a Honda Civic is not difficult as long as you have the proper tools. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Pliers Socket wrench set Torque wrench Replacement alternator Step by Step : 1 Make sure you have the radio unlock code for your Civic, if equipped with the anti-theft radio. Disconnect your negative battery cable and gather the tools required for the procedure. Make sure your workplace is safe and well-lit. 2 Remove the drive belt to better access the alternator. Remove the 4P connector from the alternator, and then remove the battery wiring module. 3 Use your socket wrench to remove the alternator bolts, and then slip the alternator away from its mount. 4 Mount the new alternator in its place. Use the torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 33 ft-lbs. This is the specific rating for the Honda Civic, do not disregard this. Not properly tightening the bolts could cause problems. 5 Attach the 4P connection and the battery wiring module. Replace the drive belt and reconnect the negative battery cable. 6 Make sure your radio and air conditioning are turned off, and then crank the engine. Rev the engine to 3,000 RPM with the vehicle in park. Hold it in this position under you hear the radiator fan turn on. 7 Take your foot off the accelerator and let the engine idle for five minutes. Set your clock and use your code to unlock your radio. Tips & Warnings If you don't have your unlock code, check on the upper inside panel of your glove box. If don't see it, contact your Honda dealer. This tutorial applies to Honda Civics equipped with the 1.7 L or 1.8 L engine (most Civics). Some models (such as the SI) are equipped with the 2.0 L engine. These models will require removal of the power steering pump to access the alternator. *7. Carefully slide the outer bearing, with the washer in front of it, off the spindle. 8. Whether or not you want to repack your wheel bearings, check them now by following the instructions for inspecting and checking wheel bearings in the section called "Checking and Packing Wheel Bearings," later in this chapter. Then come back here and resume with Step 9. As long as you're removing your bearings, you should check them for wear. If they're "packable," it's a good idea to repack them while you have everything apart. (All this task involves is squishing wheel-bearing grease into them, a wonderfully sensual job.) 9. Carefully slide the drum off the spindle, with the inner bearings inside it. Inhaling brake dust can make you seriously ill. For safety's sake, never attempt to blow away the dust with compressed air. Instead, saturate the dust completely by spraying the drum with brake parts cleaner according to the instructions on the can. Wipe the drum clean with a rag; then place the rag in a plastic bag and dispose of it immediately. 833

You can probably see grooves on the inner walls from wear. If these grooves look unusually deep, or if you see hard spots or burned places, ask your service facility to let you watch while they check out the drums with a micrometer (see Figure 18-5). If the drums aren't worn past legal tolerances (0.060 of an inch), they can be reground (or turned) rather than replaced. A special machine called a brake-lathe does this job in a relatively short amount of time. It shouldn't be a major job in terms of expense. You could do it yourself at a school auto shop; most classes have the machine. Ford . What is the Factory small block rod journal diameter?
GMC Sierra 3500 Regular Cab & Chassis. * If it looks as though the drum has to be replaced, ask your service facility to get you a used, reground drum. These are much cheaper than new ones and should be just as good, if checking with a micrometer shows that they are not too worn. If your facility can't find you one, call a couple of places listed under "Automobiles-wrecking" in the Yellow Pages and ask for used drums in good condition for your vehicle's make, model, and year. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings 37 7 Figure 18-5: Checking drum wear with a micrometer. Make sure that the drums look exactly the same as your old ones, and don't forget to specify drums for front or rear wheels. Brake drums must be replaced with drums of the same size for even braking performance. Have a professional install them for you, because the brake shoes must be adjusted to fit. Ford .
